The Doctors
Julie MacClinchy, D.V.M. D.A.B.V.P. (Canine and Feline Practice), Owner, Veterinarian, graduated from University of California, Davis in 1999. After graduation, Dr. MacClinchy completed a year long internship of intense training at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, bringing her closer to where she grew up in western Massachusetts. From there, she worked at multiple small animal general practices for a combined ten years in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Following that, Dr. MacClinchy was an emergency veterinarian for nine years in Portsmouth, NH where she managed cases and also helped with hospital management. This is where Dr. MacClinchy first met Dr. Bassett, previous owner of Exeter Veterinary Hospital, as he referred the hospital’s more intense and complicated cases for management in a 24 hour setting. Dr. MacClinchy went on to develop relationships with the clients, patients and also staff of Exeter Veterinary Hospital and began working at the hospital in 2014. Dr. MacClinchy became the owner of the practice in 2016.
Dr. MacClinchy obtained Diplomate status with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Canine and Feline Practice in 2007. Becoming an ABVP Diplomate involves mastering a rigorous and demanding application process and certification examination. ABVP requires Diplomates to maintain certification every ten years. This process demonstrates that Diplomates have kept up with changes and advancements in veterinary practice.
Dr. MacClinchy has been an avid runner, completing multiple half marathons, and also enjoys travelling and spending time outdoors. Her family includes a menagerie of pets, including a lab mix and 2 shelter cats.
Lauren C. Hill, D.V.M., Veterinarian, graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. During summer breaks, while she was in veterinary school, Dr. Hill originally worked at Exeter Veterinary Hospital as a technician. She came on board shortly after Dr. Bassett acquired the practice in 1990. Dr. Hill is active in nature conservation and enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, biking or on the water. Not to mention skiing in the winter and spending time with her yellow lab!
Jim Belanger, D.V.M., Veterinarian, graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. Dr. Belanger joined Exeter Veterinary Hospital in 2025 and has loved meeting the clients and patients of the hospital. Dr. Belanger enjoys working with pet owners through all stages of their pet’s lives and has really enjoyed becoming a member of the great professional team at Exeter Veterinary Hospital. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Belanger enjoys being outdoors on the beach with his dog, staying active with Crossfit and Spartan Races, with the occasional Disney cruise mixed in.
Stephen J. Bassett, VMD, Retired Veterinarian (EVH 1982-2024) After 42 wonderful years as a veterinarian with Exeter Veterinary Hospital, at the end of 2024, Dr. Bassett retired from Exeter Veterinary Hospital and has moved on to pickleball, Viking Cruises and (even more) bike riding. As Dr. Bassett approached retirement, he passed the reins at the hospital to the capable hands of Dr. MacClinchy in 2016. Dr. Bassett’s long and rewarding career of taking care of clients’ beloved pets left him with MANY memories and stories to tell from his years of service as a veterinarian to the community. We all wish him health and happiness in his well deserved retirement years.
