Exeter Veterinary Hospital - Doctors and Staff

The Doctors

Julie MacClinchy, D.V.M. D.A.B.V.P. (Canine and Feline Practice), Owner, Veterinarian, graduated from University of California, Davis in 1999.  After graduation, Dr. Mac completed a year long internship of intense training at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston, bringing her closer to where she grew up in western Massachusetts.  From there, she worked at multiple small animal general practices for a combined ten years in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.  Most recently, Dr. Mac was an emergency veterinarian for nine years in Portsmouth, NH where she managed cases and also helped to manage the hospital.  This is where Dr. Mac first met Dr. Bassett and Dr. Hill, as they referred the hospitals more intense and complicated cases for management in a 24 hour setting.  Dr. Mac began to develop relationships with Exeter Veterinary Hospital’s clients and patients.  In early 2014, Dr. Mac began working part time at Exeter Veterinary Hospital and in 2016, she purchased the hospital from Dr. B.

Dr. MacClinchy obtained Diplomate status with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Canine and Feline Practice in 2007.  Becoming an ABVP Diplomate involves mastering a rigorous and demanding application process and certification examination. ABVP requires Diplomates to maintain certification every ten years. This process demonstrates that Diplomates have kept up with changes and advancements in veterinary practice. Dr. Mac was re-certified in 2015.

Dr. Mac is an avid runner, completing multiple half marathons, hoping someday to complete a full marathon.  She also enjoys travelling, spending time outdoors, with her husband and 2 daughters, and with her menagerie of pets.  Molly, her lab mix, is an excellent running partner.   Flower Blossom and Rose Spot, dachshunds named by her daughters, decidedly do not like to run or spend time outdoors.  Izzi, the only cat, supervises the pack.

Stephen J. Bassett, V.M.D., Veterinarian, graduated from University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1980. Dr. B found his way to Exeter Veterinary Hospital in the summer of 1982 as an associate to Dr. Alvin Schwartz. Dr. B is a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy. [Dr. Hill is a graduate of Phillips Andover Academy. It can get a little dicey around Homecoming Weekend]. During the spring of his senior year at the Academy, in 1972, Dr. B volunteered at the Exeter Veterinary Hospital. Almost every day, he rode his bike from Amen Dorm up to 165 High Street, where the hospital was located at that time. Dr. B still rides his bicycle almost every day.
Lauren C. Hill, D.V.M., Veterinarian, graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. During summer breaks, while she was in veterinary school, Dr. H worked at the Exeter Veterinary Hospital as a technician. She came on board shortly after Dr. Bassett acquired the practice in 1990. Dr. H is a member of the Newfields Conservation Commission and active in the Seacoast Land Trust. She enjoys biking (not as much as Dr. B), cross country skiing, walking with Tuckerman, her lab, and Annie, her Corgi, as well as gardening and cooking.
